Library cards are issued to persons over five years of age (under 18 must have parent's or guardian's signature). Cards are issued to individuals who live in Boone or surrounding counties (Marion, Madison, Searcy, Carroll, or Newton). Individuals who work in, own property in or go to school in Boone County may also obtain a card (proof is required). All other individuals are charged a $20 per year fee. New patrons must show picture identification and proof of current address (driver's license, rent receipt, etc). We ask for basic information such as address and phone number, date of birth and driver's license. Library cards are issued immediately and there is no charge for new patrons.
Collections and Services:
We have over 84,000 items in our collection with more than 75,000 different titles of fiction, non-fiction, over size non-fiction books, biographies, science fiction, westerns, mysteries, large-type books, new releases, paperbacks, Arkansas books, reference books, Ozark Small Farms materials, magazines, newspapers, videos, audios books, music CD's, Cd-Roms, genealogy, easy books, juvenile fiction, non-fiction and reference books, Young Adult fiction and non-fiction, juvenile videos, audios, and magazines. During tax season, some Tax forms are available.
Checkout Limits, Fines and Lost Books:
Books and audio books check out for three weeks; videos check out for one week. Reference and genealogy books can not be checked out. Selected Arkansas books are also coded as reference. We ask that you limit video and audio titles to four per person. Our fines are 10 cents per day up to $2.00 per item. Fines on a patron's card must be under $5.00 to continue checking out items or borrowing e-books. Lost book charges may be refunded if the book is returned within 30 days accompanied by a receipt. You may renew books through the website, over the phone or in person before they are due. The same rules that apply at the desk apply online (cannot renew if someone has a hold, cannot renew videos).
We have 24 public access computers. There are 8 internet computers located in the 1st floor lobby, 4 reference computers for word processing and research, 6 computers for children, 2 computers for young adults, and 2 computers in the Genealogy Department to access genealogy. You do not have to have a library card to use our computers and there is no charge for use. Cost for printing is 10 cents per page (black & white) & 25 cents per page (color). Every Wednesday at 10 a.m. is Children's Story Hour. Toddler Time is on Thursday at 10:00. All children are welcome at Children's Story Hour. The program usually lasts 30 minutes to an hour. We also have book clubs, enrichment classes, adult reading programs, summer reading programs, Teen Time and many other activities. Click on the Calendar tab for updated events.
