...MORE THAN JUST BOOKS!
“It's the Season for a Fall Book Sale"
Sally Robinson of Friends of the Library
Where is the summer going? This is the time of year when you know it's summer still it is 95 degress as I am typing this), but the signs of autumn's coming are here. They say time seems to go faster as we get older. If so, that may explain why the summer for me has become a blur. We have had a few cool nights. With school back in session, the library has become much quieter during the day. Volunteers have been filling the day care reading baskets with some exceptional children's books for the day care reading program. Under the direction of George Cline, president of Friends of the Library, and Beth Neal, vice president in charge of the day care reading program, delivery is underway and volunteers are busy assuring books will be available to the local day care programs. Those baskets of books will be rotated every month so that students will be assured of a fresh supply of books.
The fall book sale, to be held October 2, 3, and 4, is rapidly approaching. The volunteers are busy preparing for the sale, sorting and pricing the books. We have received a whole collection of books on guns which will be of interest to those patrons who are gun buffs, including books of gunsmithing, gun history, and military weapons. We will be offering a Godey's Lady's Book printed in 1849 with gorgeous illustrations of the fashions of the day. We will also be offering a large collection of new age books including "Mythic Astrology" by Liz Greene.
I encourage you to come to the sale and browse (and buy of course). We have too many books, both fiction and non-fiction, to list here. If you are a member, you will have the privilege of early shopping on Thursday morning. If you are not a member, you can join either before or on the morning of the sale for only $5.
We encourage you to mine your own book collection for good used books to donate. We need more books for our sale. We also accept other items of vlaue which can be sold. We are a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. We use all moneys raised for the support and enhancement of the Boone County Library. If you would like to join our group of volunteers for both work and fun, please contact George Cline at (870) 741-7121 or leave your name and phone at the library.
